A Short Biography of Dan Johnson
DAN JOHNSON is the leading reviewer of light-sport aircraft. He has evaluated more than 300 aircraft in Sport Pilot, Kitplanes, Ultralight Flying!, General Aviation News, Experimenter, Hang Gliding & Paragliding, Volare, and Sport Aviation. A 5,000-hour Commercial, Instrument, Multi-Engine Pilot and former Certified Flight Instructor, Dan's focus today is on Light-Sport Aircraft, ultralight aircraft, homebuilt aircraft, and hang gliders.
Promoting aviation for 30 years, he owns Dan Johnson Media Corp and is president of the LSA Marketing Group. These two enterprises provide marketing and media services to a select group of aviation businesses and to the industry. In 2004, Dan was retained by EAA to assist the organization's marketing of Sport Pilot & Light-Sport Aircraft. His ByDanJohnson.com website is the Internet's largest source of pilot reports and aircraft information.
In 1999, Dan was given USUA's highest recognition, the Moody Award. He was again honored with the Spirit of Flight Award from the Society of Experimental Test Pilots in 2001, and received the Outstanding Leadership Award from ASTM International in 2003. He serves as Chairman of the Board of Directors for the Light Aircraft Manufacturers Association (LAMA) and is a member of the F.37 Light-Sport Aircraft Executive Committee for ASTM International.
Dan hosted and narrated the FAA & EAA video, "First Flights in Your Ultralight / Lightplane." Two books plus an annual calendar have exclusively featured his flight reports and he is a regular speaker at airshows and aviation gatherings.
